Holm 468
NGC 4725 is a barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus of Hubble type SBab, located in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky. It is approximately 54 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 150,000 light-years. The galaxy is receding from the Solar System at a radial velocity of around 1,200 kilometers per second. Together with NGC 4712 and NGC 4747, it forms the optical galaxy triplet Holm 468, and it is gravitationally bound to NGC 4747.
Several supernovae have been observed in NGC 4725, including SN 1940B (Type IIP), SN 1969H (Type I), SN 1987E, and SN 1999gs (Type Ia).
