Object Details

LDN 1235, also known as the Dark Shark Nebula, is a striking dark nebula located in the constellation Cepheus. This region of dense interstellar dust and gas spans across space, blocking the light from stars behind it, creating a dark, shark-like shape. Although it doesn’t emit light, it reflects faint starlight from nearby stars, which gives it a subtle glow. LDN 1235 is a fascinating area for astronomers, as it highlights regions where star formation may occur in the future. Its eerie silhouette against the starry background makes it a popular target for astrophotography.
