Object Details

The Leo Triplet, also known as the M66 Group, is a small group of three interacting spiral galaxies located in the constellation Leo, about 35 million light-years from Earth. The group includes M65 (NGC 3623)M66 (NGC 3627), and NGC 3628, often referred to as the “Hamburger Galaxy” due to its distinctive, edge-on appearance and dark dust lane.

These galaxies are relatively close to each other and show clear signs of gravitational interaction, such as tidal tails, warped disks, and enhanced star formation. NGC 3628, in particular, displays a long tidal tail believed to be caused by past encounters with its neighbors.
Its proximity and brightness also make it a popular object for amateur astronomers and astrophotographers.
