These two nebulae are located in the constellation Cygnus. It basically is one giant emission nebula with a dark nebula dividing it in the center. The North America nebula with the catalogue number NGC 7000 and the Pelican nebula with the catalogue designation IC 5070 are two of the most popular nebulae for astrophotographers. These nebulae can be seen from the northern hemisphere in summer and early fall high in the sky close to the zenith. The nebulae are both about 2'950 light years away from the solar system.
The North America nebula is one of the largest Nebulae in the sky and covers a region more than ten times the area of a full moon.
The Pelican nebula is also an emission nebula. This nebula has been intensly studied due to its active star forming acticity.
