The Triangulum Galaxy is one of the galaxies closest to our own galaxy, the Milky Way. It is about 3.2 million light years away from our solar system. It is located in the constellation Triangulum and can be observed in the northern hemisphere in autumn and early winter. The galaxy was catalogued by Charles Messier in his catalogue with the number 33.
The Triangulum galaxy has a diameter of about 61'120 light years, making it 0.5 times smaller than our own galaxy. Unlike our own galaxy, Triangulum is not a barred spiral galaxy. Recent analysis of the core has revealed, that there might be a small barred like structure.
